Our Story

It was 1970 when soon-to-be Dr. George Verrilli was in medical school and came across the opportunity to buy a very special convertible Maserati that many years later became significantly collectible because, in the end, only 65 of them were ever made. It was this car that financed the future of the Red Hook Community Center...

In 2015, a patient approached Dr. Verrilli to say their church was short of funds and needed to sell their school building, previously the old computer fan factory from the 1950's. The building presented as a perfect place to provide opportunity to community members of all ages and stages to take advantage of activities, arts, entertainment, classes, and locally based human services.

As a practicing obstetrician in the community for 55 years, Dr. Verrilli had come to know the needs of our families and imagined a place where the community could come together for the betterment of all.

This building, with its kitchen, auditorium and classroom facilities, was perfect. After establishing the nonprofit corporation, the Red Hook Community Center, doors opened in April of 2017.

Activities, associations, meals, exercise, various classes and creative pursuits sprouted almost immediately creating the noisy, happy, and welcoming environment that is the Red Hook Community Center today!

What we do

RHCC serves all residents and visitors of northern Dutchess County, and everyone who comes through our door is welcome. Our Center is buzzing with 600+ weekly visits from people attending 25+ programs, workshops, and events.  Our vibrant Center is a place where:

  • Toddlers play and meet their first friends

  • Youth find their first jobs and use their free time productively

  • Adults find support, and exercise their bodies and minds

  • Inbetweeners share their talents and wisdom with others

  • Seniors find friends and explore their creativity

We provide free and low cost programming to people of all ages and stages, and strive to create a Center that reflect the communities we serve, where everyone feels empowered and included.

Thank you to our funders and community partners for your gracious and vital support!
